Making art to make change.
In December 2015, I was teaching a storytelling workshop for The Moth when I met Mary Adkins, a writer and lawyer who was teaching with me. We quickly discovered a shared passion for criminal justice reform and realized that our combined skill sets — narrative analysis, law (Mary), narrative analysis, connecting with an audience in the room (me) — gave us a unique opportunity to help people work to make change in our often broken legal system. Rasa Advising was born.
We created and presented workshops that turned storytelling principles into powerful tools for advocacy, led panels at legal aid organizations and at national public defender and juvenile justice conferences, participated in grassroots politics with other arts organizations, and worked with individual firms to help their clients face moments of crisis with clarity and confidence.
We’ve been on hiatus for a while as we each pursue different career paths, but my passion for this work will never go away. Get in touch if you’d like to talk!
